Represent Justice wins two Inaugural Anthem Awards

Represent Justice is thrilled to announce we’ve won two Anthem Awards in the categories of Human & Civil Rights, and Education, Art & Culture. The Anthem Awards, an initiative of the Webby Awards, was launched in response to the prevalence social good has taken within the national conversation in recent years. The inaugural competition received nearly 2,500 entries from 36 countries worldwide, and the winners were selected by esteemed members of the Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.By amplifying the voices that spark global change, the Anthem Awards are defining a new benchmark for impactful work that inspires others to take action in their communities.Represent Justice was a silver winner in the Human & Civil Rights category for our work on the Justice for Julius campaign, which succeeded in commuting the death sentence for Julius Jones — a Black man who spent over 20 years on death row for a crime he did not commit.“It’s an honor to be recognized by the Anthem Awards. I also thank the community of families, faith leaders, students, various organizations, and activists that took part and stood up throughout the campaign,” said Cece Jones-Davis, Campaign Director for Justice for Julius. “The Justice for Julius campaign revealed the ugly truth that an innocent Black man can be sentenced to death but it also proved that millions of people all over the globe would not be silenced in order to spare his life. The fight is not over, we will continue to work towards freeing Julius Jones from incarceration and reuniting him with his family.”We also were a silver winner in the Education, Art & Culture category for our Play for Justice initiative, which brings NBA teams, policymakers and other cultural stakeholders inside a prison for a roundtable conversation and a game of basketball. Play for Justice was produced by PLUS ONE society and executive produced by Kristen Ingram.“We're honored to be recognized among other distinguished winners for our partnerships and campaigns which continue to elevate stories of people impacted by the injustice of the criminal legal system and create public demand for change,” said Represent Justice CEO Daniel Forkkio.Winners for the inaugural Anthem Awards were celebrated on Feb. 28, 2022 at the first annual Anthem Voices conference followed by a virtual Awards Show hosted by actor Jay Ellis.
