Represent Justice’s 2025 Open Call Impact Campaign Awarded to The Strike

Represent Justice is awarding its 2025 Open Call Impact Campaign to The Strike! This award-winning documentary tells the story of a generation of California men who endured decades of solitary confinement and, against all odds, launched the largest hunger strike in U.S. history. Told through their experiences, The Strike goes beyond making a powerful case against solitary confinement; it also illuminates the transformative power of organizing and a resistance movement led by incarcerated people.

This impact campaign is an opportunity for Represent Justice to further its commitment to using the power of storytelling to engage audiences in reimagining the legal system. Our impact campaigns are centered around building capacity and narrative power for currently and formerly incarcerated film participants, who play a leading role on each campaign - elevating their voices, their work, and their movements for change.

Starting now and continuing through the summer, we'll be highlighting the stories of The Strike's film team members including co-directors JoeBill Muñoz and Lucas Guilkey, alongside movement leaders, solitary survivors, and key protagonists, such as Dolores Canales, Jack Morris, and others. We'll share information about screenings of the film taking place around the country, opportunities to host a screening in your community, and actions you can take to create change within the justice system. We'll also be shining a light on the issue of solitary confinement, currently affecting an estimated 122,000 people in the U.S. today, while uplifting community-led solutions.

On February 3, 2025, The Strike premieres on PBS’ Independent Lens and kicks off a streaming run on the network’s YouTube channel.

All are invited to tune into the premiere and maximize the film’s impact by hosting a watch party!
