Nelson Morris, a Project Associate at Restore Justice, dedicates his efforts to community outreach and fundraising while mentoring youth and teaching advocacy courses, all after spending 29 years in prison for a crime committed at 17, from which he was granted a new sentence following the Supreme Court’s Miller decision.

About Nelson

Nelson Morris is Restore Justice’s Project Associate. In that role, he focuses on community outreach and fundraising. In addition, Nelson works as a violence prevention mentor and teaches youth advocacy courses several times each week.

Nelson first joined the Restore Justice team as a Future Leaders Apprentice. Nelson returned home in August 2020 after serving 29 years and three weeks in the Illinois Department of Corrections for a conviction at the age of 17. Originally serving life without parole, Nelson received a new sentence after the Supreme Court’s Miller decision.

Outside of work, Nelson enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He recently married his childhood sweetheart and is relishing his role as a grandpa.
